Last week the San Jose Sharks made national headlines, and not for their play on the ice. A very public feud between former Captain Joe Thornton and current General Manager Doug Wilson occurred after Wilson made public comments explaining why Thornton had been stripped of his Captaincy. Thornton who had originally learned the news about him losing the "C" through the media, clearly did not appreciate Wilson's comments and responded in scathing fashion.
“I think Doug just needs to shut his mouth. I think that’s the bottom line. All I’ve got to say is I’ve been here every day working hard. I haven’t taken a sabbatical. He just needs to stop lying, shut his mouth.”
However despite the fact that the comments clearly showed a rift between the two men, on Tuesday Craig Custance reported a conversation he had with Doug Wilson and apparently all is well in the Shark Tank. The important thing to note here is that Joe Thornton has a 100% no trade clause, and has said in the past that he is unwilling to waive it under any circumstances. Wilson reportedly was working on trades with both the Blackhawks and the Maple Leafs prior to the deadline, but Thornton told him to stop wasting his time. Is this just Wilson trying to smooth things over with a guy he's stuck with? Has this all been some kind of calculated plan from Wilson to get Thornton to waive his no trade? Or do you believe Wilson, and are things just fine in San Jose?
