The Minnesota Wild have a big decision to make when it comes to the future of veteran forward Thomas Vanek

Vank has never really lived up to expectations since arriving in Minnesota, and with the cap hit that he carries that has led to disdain from segments of the Wild fan base, and has led to the speculation that Minnesota will buyout his contract this summer. However according to Vanek's agent there are no signs of any buyout, beliving that general manager Chuck Fletcher would have notified him if it were the case.

“If Chuck knew he was going to buy him out by now, I think I would know by now,” agent Steve Bartlett said as per Mike Russo of the Star Tribune. “I do think I have a good enough relationship that he’d give me the heads up. Now that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t decide something different between now and two weeks from now.”

With a buyout the Wild would save $5 million against the cap this season and $4 million the following season, flexibility that Chuck Fletcher may decide he needs depending on the official salary cap announcement expected next week.
