It was a tough beginning to Wednesday’s game for the Laval Rockets in the American Hockey League. At the end of the first period however, something incredibly unexpected took place.
The Rochester Americans were leading 3-0 in the last moments of the first frame when they pulled their goalie on a delayed penalty. Filip Cederqvist then put the puck in his own empty net on a centering pass and since Rocket goaltender Strauss Mann was the last to touch the disc, he gets credit for the goal.
He got the chance to celebrate with his teammates.
This is quite unusual, and I hope to never see this in the NHL. But the Rocket, the farm club of the Montreal Canadiens, and the Amerks, the affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, let us experience this crazy feat!
