AI software uses face recognition to rank the most attractive coaches in the NHL

Here's a story you probably didn't expect to read on your Tuesday evening...

The Battle of Alberta has turned into a beauty contest after Edmonton Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft and Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter have been named the NHL's two most attractive coaches from facial recognition software employed by gambling.com.

So... just to break that down again...

Look, I'm a happily married man who is staunchly entrenched in a heteronormative lifestyle and even I think this is a joke. There's no way in Hell you can convince me that either of these men are "the most attractive" in any sort of ranking.

But, for kicks and giggles here's the entire list with rankings 1-32:

Are you kidding me!?

Again, I'm as straight as an arrow but you mean to tell me that Rick Bowness and Craig Berube are hotter than Rod Brind'Amour and Jared Bednar? And Bruce Boudreau is more attractive than Martin St. Louis? If nothing else, this list is just another example that AI and computer generated lists are still decades away from being anything close to accurate.

I mean... Bednar is gorgeous and he's ranked 15th?

And how does this make you feel if you're number 32 Peter Laviolette? C'mon now... Lavvy didn't do anything wrong and he wakes up on a Tuesday morning to find out that he's the ugliest coach in the NHL? That's rough and uncalled for.

By the way, if you're asking me the ugliest coach has to be Boudreau but having said that there's clearly a difference between 'ugly' and 'attractive' because I'll be damned if anyone calls Boudreau unattractive. He's an absolute gem of a man and I'm sure there'd be no shortage of women out there (and gentlemen, to be fair) knocking down his door if he were to suddenly find himself on the dating free agent market.
