Do we know everything that occured in what prompted the Chicago Blackhawks to terminate Corey Perry’s contract on Wednesday? Certainly not. However, more details have emerged, especially when general manager Kyle Davidson held a press conference on Tuesday to explain that Perry was being terminated by the club for “engaging in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”

He also commented on the disturbing rumours involving Connor Bedard’s mother Melanie Bedard, stating that that no other players or their families were involved, despite speculation to the contrary. Davidson added that anyone who suggests otherwise is “wildly inaccurate” and “frankly, disgusting.”

ESPN’s Emily Kaplan first reported that an incident occurred between Perry and a team employee prior to the game against the Blue Jackets in Columbus on November 22nd. Now Frank Seravalli added that something might have happened in Nashville a few days earlier and it involved alcohol.

“According to sources, an alcohol-fueled incident involving Perry was alleged to have occurred during an event that included sponsors and team employees in attendance. It remains unclear what allegedly took place, who witnessed it, and who reported it to the team.

“Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson said that the front office learned of the allegation while in Columbus last week and “immediately pulled” Perry from the lineup prior to a Thanksgiving eve game against the Blue Jackets. Davidson declined to provide any detail about the allegation or subsequent investigation before resulting in the termination that was scheduled to be completed on Wednesday.”

On Wednesday, Perry cleared waivers and was then terminated by Chicago.

Perry’s rights were acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning this summer and he signed his current one-year, $4-million contract with the Blackhawks soon after. He has four goals and five assists in 16 games this season, his first in Chicago.

In 1,273 career NHL games, Perry has recorded 421 goals and 892 points split between the Ducks, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Lightning and Blackhawks.
