The Alex DeBrincat era in the Windy City officially ended this summer, as the Chicago Blackhawks decided to shock their fans and the rest of the hockey world by unceremoniously trading him to the rebuilding Ottawa Senators, and in return receiving the seventh overall pick (used to select defenseman Kevin Korchinski) along with a second-round pick in 2022 and a third-round pick in 2024.

Of course, for Ottawa, this was one of their major acquisitions made since the end of last season that saw them finish on the outside looking in at the postseason for the 5th straight year that also included former Flyers captain Claude Giroux and former Wild goaltender Cam Talbot.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are officially in rebuild mode, something that has come to the dismay of star forward Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews in particular. But in DeBrincat's case, he's excited to get going with his new team, and he's looking forward to playing some "meaningful" hockey - something he didn't experience in Chicago.

"A lot of my good friends have been traded out of Chicago. It is what it is. I loved it there but I'm excited to be here. It'll be a lot of fun to play hockey," he said. "I'm not so sure it's gonna be great in Chicago. I'm excited to play some meaningful games."

In 368 career games played with Chicago, DeBrincat was one of the most productive forwards on the squad, tallying 160 goals and 147 assists which included two seasons of 40+ goals; last year, he registered a career high of 41 goals and 37 assists.
