Alex Meruelo fires back at reports of unpaid bills

The tenure of the Arizona Coyotes in the Desert State has officially come to a close, as they will be moving to Salt Lake City for the start of next season.

Not only was there mostly a lack of winning on the ice by the franchise, but it was also marred by issues with ownership along with financial uncertainties. In recent years, several reports began to leak about the team failing to pay bills with regard to state and city taxes and arena operating costs, along with failure to pay player bonuses in a timely manner.

In fact, just earlier this month, reports indicated that the Coyotes had failed to pay hotel bills, adding another layer of embarrassment to the franchise.

However, during his public remarks today, Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo pushed back against any notion that his organization was delinquent in payment.

"I'm not aware of any unpaid bills, and I can tell you one thing - to have been in business 40 years, having state licenses in media and banking and also in Las Vegas when it comes to gaming commissions, you wouldn't be around if you didn't pay your bills. That's all I have to say about that."
