Since February 2022, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has been feeling the heat of American fans reacting to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. As you may remember, Ovechkin was booed during a trip across western Canada for not taking more of a stand against president Vladimir Putin. Ovechkin’s Instagram page has featured a profile photo of himself next to Putin. Back in 2017, Ovechkin founded “PutinTeam,” a social movement to show support for the country’s head of state. Earlier this summer, Ovechkin also shared a photo of him chilling with Olympic gymnast Nikita Nagorny, head of Vladimir Putin’s Youth Army…
This is a side of the superstar not many fans approve of…
On Monday morning, the KHL published several pictures of Ovechkin wearing the blue uniform of the Moscow Dynamo for the preseason opening with the caption: “It’s always good to see you in white-and-blue, Ovi.”
Fans were quick to respond to the post with brutal comments asking for Ovechkin to remain in Russia and never return to the NHL. Here are a few of them:
Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ovechkin pleaded for peace.
“Please, no more war,” and added “we have to live in peace and a great world.”
But his actions appear to speak louder than words and fans are attempting to get back at him with words of their own… Do you agree with the brutal comments?
