Washington Capitals captain and future Hockey Hall of Famer Alex Ovechkin turned 40 years old yesterday on the eve of opening his 20th NHL training camp.

He celebrated the day with family, with his wife, Nastya, posting a photo of Ovechkin on her social media with their two sons, Sergei and Ilya, posing with birthday balloons to celebrate his special day.

Today though, well... let's just say that the celebration is over.

Ovechkin took to the ice for an informal practice with the Capitals this morning but was forced to leave early with a suspected lower-body injury.

Capitals insider Tarik-El Bashir reports that Ovechkin left early to receive some treatment for a lower-body injury:

No word yet on the severity of the injury, but suffice it to say that this is not how Ovi envisioned the start of his 20th campaign with the Caps. Stay tuned for an official update on his condition.
