This is an example of a mediocre period of hockey taking taking an interesting turn in a matter of seconds.
During the overtime period of Saturday's matchup between the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils, with each team recording only two shots on goal a piece, Caps' star forward Alex Ovechkin gave his team a spark with a thunderous hit.
Ovechkin ran over Jacob Josefson with a devastating hit in the Washington zone, forcing the Devils forward to skate straight to the bench in obvious discomfort.
The game went to a shootout, with Ovechkin scoring the deciding goal to clinch another victory for the NHL's best team.
Now that's how to ignite a fire under your team.
