Alex Ovechkin ties Brett Hull for 4th on the NHL's all-time goal scoring list

Just Jagr, Howe and Gretzky to go! Is Ovi the best goal scorer in NHL history?

Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin has just notched the 741st regular season goal of his NHL career to tie legendary Canadian-born American sniper Brett Hull at 4th on the league's all-time goal scoring list.

And while his 741st goal may not be a classic Ovi, one-timer snipe shot, it's still very much an "Ovi-like" goal in that he just put the puck on the net.

Check it out:

While there are no records for total shots on goal going back to the days of yore, it's safe to say that nobody has ever peppered the net more than Ovechkin. He puts shots on the board at a ridiculous rate and that, combined with his wicked power and precision, is what has enabled him to pot 741 goals. In that respect, he's actually a lot like the man he tied in Brett Hull. Hull of course was never one to hesitate when the puck was on his stick. He would fire it from any angle and would often catch goaltenders by surprise as a result. Like Ovechkin, Hull had incredible power and accuracy... in short these two men are born snipers.

Up next for Ovechkin on the NHL's all-time goal scoring list is Jaromir Jagr at 766 goals. And with the way he's playing he could surpass him before the New Year!

It'll likely be awhile before Ovechkin catches Gordie Howe at 801 and ultimately Wayne Gretzky at 894, but if his body can hold up and the Capitals can remain competitive he's got a shot at becoming the NHL's all-time goal scoring leader. Incredible.

And for our younger fans out there who maybe don't understand just how good Hull was, here's a quick education on "The Golden Brett":

A true legend of the sport. He had a one-timer shot that hasn't been replicated by anyone else other than Ovechkin, to be honest. He faced the incredible task of playing in the shadow of his superstar father Bobby Hull but, somehow, someway he was actually able to surpass his father both in terms of star power and career accomplishments. An absolute legend.
