Here is the very latest in the saga of the hottest free agent on the NHL market this offseason. According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, a deal is in place with the Vegas Golden Knights and it's a big one. LeBrun states the deal is for seven years and will pay Pietrangelo $8.8 million per season!

Pietrangelo now has the fifth highest cap hit among NHL defenceman. The new contract comes with a full no-movement clause.

Meanwhile, there is word several members of the Golden Knights are none too pleased with the way this whole thing has been handled. In order for Vegas to sign Pietrangelo, salary has to be shipped out of Vegas. Names rumoured to be on the move include Marc-André Fleury, Max Pacioretty, Nate Schmidt and several others. However, apparently the team has not discussed any possible trades with any players.

"Some rumblings regarding Vegas players being upset their names have been rumored in trades and how poorly the situation has been handled internally," said Fox Sports reporter Andy Strickland on Twitter.

"Fair to say the core of Vegas is unnerved as the Pietrangelo Watch hits Day 4," said TSN Frank Seravalli. "They saw Paul Stastny shipped out. They've heard all of their names in play - Fleury, Schmidt, Smith, Pacioretty, Martinez and Marchessault - as they now wait for the other shoe to drop."

As for Vegas's current cap space, with Pietrangelo's contract in the mix, the team is now close to $7 million over.

"Our assumption is that the contract was signed after 5:00pm ET and therefore will not be officially registered by the league until tomorrow,: said the website. "This would then buy Vegas some additional time to make the necessary space required to accommodate Pietrangelo’s AAV under the cap."
