UPDATE: NHL Player Safety has fined Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse for one game for his role in last night's brawl at the conclusion of Game 4 between the Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights.

In addition, head coach Jay Woodcroft has been fined $10,000.

Both the suspension and the fine are automatic given, but could have been rescinded by the league.

For reference, here's what Nurse was suspended for:

That's a pretty textbook instigator call, to me.

I can understand maybe why some Oilers fans aren't happy with this suspension but the fact of the matter is that Nurse is 100% in the wrong here. Now, having said that I would expect that Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo also earns himself at least a one game suspension for his role in last night's brawl, as well.

In case you missed it last night, the Edmonton Oilers managed to even up their second round Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights with an impressive 4-1 victory.

In the waning moments of the game though things went a bit off the rails.

Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo handed out a vicious slash to Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl, sparking a bit of a riot to close out the game. Pietrangelo goes full on lumberjack mode, then gets confronted by Oilers captain Connor McDavid. That's when all Hell breaks loose.

Check it out:

This morning, NHL Player Safety has announced that Pietrangelo will have a hearing to discuss potential supplemental discipline for the dirty play.

Check it out:

"It's as 'intent to injure' as you can get. You'd like to see that suspended. It's not a hockey play," said McDavid on the slash after the game. And you know what? I'm inclined to agree with him.

I'm all for tough hockey, especially in the post-season, but a two handed slash on a superstar player in the final seconds of the game is some real chicken sh*t garbage. It's not a hockey play and as a result I think Pietrangelo should be forced to sit out for a game.
