With 9 NHL teams reportedly trying to sign him, Texier has made his choice.
There has been plenty of talk surrounding St. Louis Blues forward Alexandre Texier over the course of the past week with Texier and the Blues looking to part ways. On Saturday, the Blues made the move to place Texier on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract, a move that is expected to go through in just a few short hours.
The move will make Texier an unrestricted free agent, eligible to sign with any team of his choosing around the National Hockey League that offers him a contract. There seems to be plenty of interest in Texier with NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reporting on Saturday that as many as 9 teams have expressed interest in signing Texier following his contract termination.
It sounds like 8 of those teams may be out of luck however with the latest from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman indicating that one team may have already won the sweepstakes.
"The word around the league right now... the favorite is absolutely the Montreal Canadiens," revealed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. "All eyes are on Montreal for Texier."
The move makes a great deal of sense when you consider that Texier is from France. The Canadiens of course play in a French-speaking province in the Country of Canada which could make life a lot of easier for a native French speaker. It is a considerable advantage for the Canadiens when it comes to luring the player, one that has very little if anything to do with hockey.
