Alexander Ovechkin scores his 500th NHL goal.

Despite having had the pleasure of watching Alex Ovechkin play from the very first moment he set foot in the NHL, and knowing just how great of a player he really is, there was still something surreal about watching him score #500 on Sunday.

Much to the credit of Capitals GM Brian MacLellan he had asked the NHL permission to allow the players to rush the ice if Ovechkin did in fact score his 500th, and when he did the home-town crowd and all of his teammates erupted in unison.

Ovechkin becomes the 5th fastest player to 500 in NHL history, and becomes the only Russian player to have ever accomplished the feat, and despite all he has accomplished in his career thus far, he admitted after the game it was a moment he will never forget.
