For many fans in North America a hockey player's career effectively ends when he leaves the National Hockey League and heads back oversees, thanks in large part to the fact that games from foreign leagues like the Swedish Elite League, or the Kontinental Hockey League are difficult to find in television packages in North America.

For many players though the NHL proves to be just a single chapter in their hockey careers and that is very true of even long time NHL veterans like former star forward Alexei Kovalev. Kovalev not only began his career in Russia before he ever joined the ranks of the NHL, but even following his NHL career he spent an additional two years playing in the Swiss B league with VISP EHC as a player and has now become a head coach.

Kovalev's coaching career has actually taken him all the way to China where he is now the coach of the Kontinental Hockey League's only franchise in that country, Kunlun Red Star. The Red Star are clearly an attempt by the top brass of the KHL to grow the sport in one of the world's biggest markets where it could potentially reach literally billions of fans, but getting the team to succeed has been a challenge. The Red Star have completed 4 seasons prior to this current one and have never posted anything even close to a winning record during their time in the league, so getting any wins for this team is a huge deal.

This week the Red Star picked up one of those very rare wins, just their 5th of the season thus far, and following the game the cameras were rolling when Kovalev addressed his locker room. In spite of the fact that he remained perfectly calm during his entire speech it was clear that Kovalev had been impressed by the efforts put forth by his team. Although his demeanor remained calm however that didn't stop Kovalev from unloading what was a profanity laced speech following the game, one that had the poor censors behind the scenes working overtime to mute all of the naughty words many of which you can still make out.

Interestingly enough despite playing in China and in a Russian league, the entire speech was delivered in English so you can hear it for yourself.
