It has been confirmed that the Arizona Coyotes have placed forward Adam Ruzicka on waivers on Friday for the purpose of contract termination.

The announcement was made after a video was trending on social in which Ruzicka can be seen with what appears to be cocaine in front of him.

The video started trending early on Friday after it was recorded and posted on social media. The footage originally came from Ruzicka’s own Instagram account, on which he posted a story of himself as he seemed to have set up a station in order to consume the cocaine, then flips the camera towards himself where he grins like an idiot, almost proud of what he is about to do. The video was erased from his Instagram profile, but is still viral on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Ruzicka was newly a member of the Coyotes after he was claimed on waivers by Arizona. He was waived by the Calgary Flames on January 24, and claimed by the Yotes. He since has played three games for Arizona, but however failed to record a point. In his role as a depth forward in Calgary, he had three goals and nine points in 39 games. Back in 2017, Ruzicka was selected in the fourth round, 109th overall by the Flames. In 117 games in the NHL, the Slovakian forward has put up 14 goals and 40 points.

Some fans believe other teams could be interested in claiming Ruzicka off waivers despite the controversial video. Several fans pointed to the Edmonton Oilers, who’ve been known to give controversial players second chances like Corey Perry and Evander Kane.

However, it would be important for Ruzicka to get the help he needs with what seems to be substance abuse issues. He could always get the help from the NHL and NHLPA Players Assistance program.

Let’s see what happens next for him.
