Amazing gesture by Alex Ovechkin for Marc-Andre Fleury in chaotic ending to last night’s game
The Capitals had just lost to the Wild, but that did not stop the captain. Full story below:
Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin did not score in last night’s game, nor did his team get the win over the Wild in Minnesota. The hometown favourites took the 4-2 win over the Caps, and the losing team couldn’t wait to get off the ice and retrieve to the dressing room.
But not so fast said Ovechkin. As soon as the final buzzer went off and he saw his teammates going down the tunnel, the captain immediately sprinted near the bench and called them back onto the ice to give Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury a center-ice player by play goodbye.
It was important for Ovechkin to show Flower some love at center ice even though the backup netminder had just celebrated his club’s win over his.
This is just pure class.
Retirement is looming for Fleury at the end of the season.
With this probably being the last time Ovechkin was on the ice with the veteran goalie, he knew he had to give him a proper sent-off.
Legend recognizes legend. Gotta love it!
