Amazon Prime's 2026-27 NHL details reportedly leaked online

Amazon Prime is quickly becoming a much bigger player in the Canadian NHL broadcasting landscape, and the 2026-27 season could mark a significant turning point in the way fans consume hockey. After previously carrying Monday night games, Prime Video has now secured a long-term agreement to stream national Wednesday night NHL games in Canada in both English and French, beginning this season. The first Prime Video Wednesday night broadcast is scheduled for September 30.

And while the move represents a major change for Canadian hockey fans, it could also lead to some major changes behind the camera.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the futures of several longtime Sportsnet personalities, most notably Elliotte Friedman and Kevin Bieksa. Both have reportedly reached the end of their Sportsnet contracts without new agreements in place, leaving their futures with the network uncertain as the new NHL season approaches.

Naturally, that has led to speculation that Amazon could be waiting in the wings.

Friedman would be an especially logical addition to Amazon's NHL coverage. The longtime insider has become one of the most recognizable hockey media personalities in Canada, and his combination of league-wide knowledge, breaking news and ability to explain complicated transactions has made him one of Sportsnet's most valuable television personalities. Bieksa, meanwhile, brings something completely different. The former NHL defenseman has developed into one of the more entertaining analysts on Canadian television, with his willingness to joke around, challenge conventional hockey opinions and engage with his fellow panelists giving Sportsnet broadcasts plenty of personality.

The possibility of seeing Friedman and Bieksa together on a new Amazon broadcast is therefore an intriguing one, particularly given the chemistry the two have developed over the years.

There is also speculation surrounding Kelly Hrudey, another longtime Sportsnet analyst who is reportedly no longer expected to return to the network. Hrudey has been a familiar face on Canadian hockey broadcasts for decades, and adding him alongside Friedman and Bieksa would instantly give Amazon a panel loaded with experience and recognizable names.

Of course, none of those potential moves should be treated as official until Amazon or the broadcasters themselves confirm them. For now, the Sportsnet futures of Friedman and Bieksa remain uncertain, while Hrudey's departure has added even more fuel to speculation about what Amazon's new-look hockey coverage could eventually look like.

What isn't speculation is Amazon's growing commitment to the NHL. The company has now expanded beyond its previous Canadian streaming package and will also serve as the exclusive local streaming home for six NHL teams in their respective markets beginning this season: the Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues.

Adding even more intrigue, Amazon Prime's Wednesday Night Hockey schedule has reportedly been leaked, giving hockey fans an early glimpse at what is expected to be one of the most important new weekly properties on the Canadian hockey calendar.

If the reported schedule is accurate, it will only add to the anticipation surrounding Amazon's first full Wednesday night season. And if Friedman, Bieksa and Hrudey ultimately end up joining the operation, Amazon could enter the 2026-27 season with a broadcasting lineup capable of challenging Sportsnet not just for viewers, but for some of the most recognizable personalities in Canadian hockey media.
