The Anaheim Ducks have unveiled the man that will become just the 11th head coach in the history of their franchise.

That honor has been bestowed upon 60 year old Greg Cronin who gets his first shot at a head coaching job in the National Hockey League after an extensive coaching career at all levels of hockey.

Cronin began his career at the collegiate level, spending several years working as both an assistant and head coach at that level before making the jump to the NHL with the New York Islanders. There Cronin would work as an assistant coach for 4 seasons under a number of head coaches including Mike Milbury and Peter Laviolette.

Cronin would then focus on the role of a head coach, working both at the American Hockey League level and the collegiate level in that role for 8 years before eventually embarking on his second stint in the NHL. Cronin would again have a lengthy stint as an assistant coach at the NHL level, spending 3 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and 4 more with the New York Islanders before taking a job to become the head coach of the AHL's Colorado Eagles. There Cronin has served in his role as head coach for the last 5 years prior to being named the new coach of the Ducks on Monday.

Needless to say he brings a wealth of experience to the table, no doubt among the primary reasons the Ducks viewed him favorably as a candidate.

Cronin has released a statement in junction with today's announcement via the Ducks official website:

I'm excited and honored to be named head coach of the Anaheim Ducks," said Cronin. "This team has a fantastic future ahead, and I'm very grateful to the Samueli family and Pat Verbeek for entrusting me with this amazing opportunity.
