New Jersey Devils’ Andreas Johnsson got a little too excited on Thursday night when he faced the Minnesota Wild.

As he invited by Ryan Hartman to drop the gloves and fight, he got ready and ruined the tilt before it even started.

He took off his helmet! Ever since the start of the 2013-14 NHL season when the league made a new rule to penalize players who remove their helmets before a fight, no one has intentionally remove their bucket to fight...

But Johnsson forgot about it you can tell he was the only one by Hartman’s reaction.

As Hartman looked at him confused, Johnsson couldn’t even tell when he had done wrong. I don’t think it even set in until the linesman explained it to him after the fact.

While Hartman would have loved to fight him, don’t feel too sorry for the Wild forward. His team ended with the 5-2 win and he tallied a goal and 2 assists. He could have had himself a Gordie Howe/Rick Tocchet Hat Trick had Johnsson not taken his helmet off before this fight… but that’s what happens when you forget the rules.

Maybe it’s good thing Johnsson didn’t get hit in the face - might not have helped his memory.
