Police officers search Andrei Vasilevskiy's car after confronting him on Saturday.
The Tampa Bay Lightning's star netminder almost had a heart attack by the looks of things today after he was unexpectedly confronted by police outside of Benchmark International Arena.
The whole thing was meant to set up a surprise for the Lightning star but the plan may have sounded a lot better on paper than it went in execution. The idea was to surprise Vasilevskiy with the Vezina Trophy that he had just won for his performance during the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season, but it may have genuinely stressed the man out instead.
The plan began by having Vasilevskiy meet police outside the arena where they explained to him that suspects being pursued by police may have tampered with his motor vehicle. Vasilevskiy was then asked to step outside of the arena and escort police to his vehicle so they could conduct a search, with the police going all out for their part in this prank.
The police officers even brought out the search dog and informed Vasilevskiy that it had alerted to something inside of his car, making poor Vasilevskiy even more nervous than before. He would truly seem to lose his cool when a duffle bag was discovered in the passenger seat, with Vasilevskiy only truly regaining his composure when the Vezina Trophy was revealed to be inside of that very same duffle bag.
"Now I'm embarrassed." admitted Vasilevskiy in the video.
I don't blame him one bit for being nervous and I suspect that the Lightning may avoid giving any future award winners the same type of stress that Vasilevskiy experienced during this prank. Here is a look at the video:
