Another billionaire reaches out to Gary Bettman about relocating the Coyotes!

A Seattle ownership group, which includes Jerry Bruckheimer, a Hollywood producer, and David Bonderman, a private equity CEO, has been authorized to file an application for an NHL expansion team that would begin play in the 2020-21 season, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said last Thursday and now other billionaires are hoping to be as lucky.

Seattle would become the 32nd NHL team, however, Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta has reportedly met with the NHL commissioner about the potential of bringing the NHL to Houston. According to the Sports director at Fox 26 Mark Berman, Fertitta has had preliminary talks about buying and relocating the Arizona Coyotes to Houston.

While neither party is close to a decision, we all know Fertitta has the money and power to convince Bettman this is the best way to go moving forward.

Some fans were quick to note that in the announcement of the Seattle’s go -ahead in the expansion process, it was revealed that the Coyotes would move division to accommodate the arrival of the 32nd team. Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston mentioned that the new expansion team would logically be placed in the Pacific Division, meaning that the Coyotes would likely be moved into the Central Division as a result. A perfect geographic fit if they get relocated to Houston no?

See this to understand better, Jillian Fisher knows what’s going on:

Moving the Coyotes to the Central Division adds fire to the Houston rumours and could even tip the scales regarding a move.

If Fertitta is involved and in dialogue with Bettman, it could happen sooner rather than later.
