Another destination comes up for Ryan O’Reilly!

The Maple Leafs might have wanted to keep him, but another Canadian team emerges as a potential landing spot.

Earlier this week, reports came up that the Toronto Maple Leafs and pending free agent forward Ryan O’Reilly haven’t ruled out a potential return just yet. In his exit interview in May, O’Reilly himself made it sound like it was a rental experience, probably all well aware of the Maple Leafs’ salary cap situation and not thinking he could fit in as an option. However, Pierre LeBrun recently mentioned how new GM Brad Treliving could be working for O’Reilly to stick around.

But the Maple Leafs aren’t the only ones with eyes on the free agent, and now Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has thrown another option out there, wondering on his latest 32 Thoughts podcast if the Vancouver Canucks will try and sign O’Reilly since they are looking for another centre.

There is a feeling that O’Reilly will see his average annual value fall around $5 million per season, which is doable for the Canucks. IF O’Reilly is interested in joining a team that is focused on retooling at the moment.

O’Reilly finished last season with 30 points in 53 regular season games and another nine points in 11playoff contests. He battled through a broken foot and broken finger, and with some of the comments he made on his playing time during the postseason, some wonder if a return to Toronto is really in the books.

Maybe Vancouver has a shot.
