Vancouver Canucks forward Bo Horvat's contract extension got a lot of fans excited on Friday. But a few have shown some concern about a particular element that was specified on the fourth year of his deal.
According to CapFriendly, the break-down of Horvat's extension shows that the forward's representatives made sure that he was protected in a lockout year, for the 2020-21 season.
The specification is that "Horvat's camp made sure to take full advantage of the 35% rule in year 4 (potential lockout year)."
The current NHL convention will come to an end then, which hints at another lockout in the league. Horvat's camp made sure to capitalize on a lockout year, by not receiving any signing bonuses.
Interesting to see if other contract extensions will continue to consider a looming lockout...
