Another Red Wings legend to take over for Steve Yzerman in Detroit?

To say that Detroit Red Wings GM is on the hot seat would be the understatement of the century. The Red Wings are staring down the barrel of their 10th consecutive season outside the playoffs and their 7th season with Yzerman at the helm.

The Red Wings are 3 points out of a playoff spot with just four games remaining and if they indeed fall short of the post-season you can bet that Red Wings fans will be calling for his dismissal.

Interestingly enough, NHL insider Darren Dreger was on TSN's Insider Trading segment today when he reported on a potential replacement for Yzerman if/when the time comes to move on. And it's a name that Yzerman and the Red Wings' faithful are very familiar with: Kris Draper.

From Dreger earlier today:

I wonder about the men...who appear to be ready for the next challenge; I think about Kris Draper with the Red Wings; doesn't it seem likely Detroit is going to make some changes there, okay well, is Drapes ready to be a GM? Probably.

Draper has been a part of the Red Wings' management staff since he retired in 2011 and was promoted to become Yzerman's assistant GM in 2023.
