Ever since he was not qualified to stay with the Carolina Hurricanes this summer, Jesse Puljujarvi’s future in the NHL has been in limbo. However on Thursday’s edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Chris Johnston revealed that there is now possibility for a return in the NHL.

“The rehab process has been very encouraging for Jesse Puljujarvi, so well in fact that he may be ready to return to the NHL as soon as next month. And so when it was revealed he would need that double hip surgery in the offseason, he didn’t receive a qualifying offer from the Carolina Hurricanes and so he is an unrestricted free agent. He’s back in Finland now, he’s resumed skating, said to be feeling strong and he’s looking for a new deal, perhaps a low risk option, low cost option for a team to bring in during the season.”

Puljujarvi underwent double hip surgery during the summer, but is confident he can be great added depth for any contender out there. However during the summer and training camps, it was reported that no team had called regarding his services.

Puljujarvi came to Carolina after the Edmonton Oilers sent him packing in a trade at the past deadline in March. He appeared in 17 games for the Canes, recording just two assists. He added an assist in seven playoff games.

He could be a great addition as bottom-six forward for any team at this point, and could at least be given a chance on a minimum-salary deal…
