Ahead of tonight’s action, the league’s department of player safety suspended Vegas Golden Knights forward Brett Howden for two games for an Illegal Check to the Head on Seattle’s Brandon Tanev.
Howden was given a five-minute major and was ejected from his team’s opener for a hit to the head of Tanev in the third period of action. Tanev was unable to return after the hit.
This is how the hit went down:
Before he was ejected from the game, Howden had collected an assist in the home opener. Last season, he put up six goals and 13 points in 54 games last season, while picking up 55 penalty minutes. He added five goals and 10 points in 22 playoff games with Vegas.
Before he was forced to leave the game following the hit, Tanev was a -1 rating. Last season in all 82 games, he had a career-high 16 goals and 35 points.
This is the second suspension of the 2023-24 season. Already. In the preseason, Los Angeles Kings’ Arthur Kaliyev was suspended four games, two in the preseason and two for the regular calendar, for Kneeing Anaheim Ducks’ Chase De Leo during last night’s exhibition contest.
