The Los Angeles Kings pull a significant move on Wednesday, acquiring the rights to 25-year-old restricted free-agent winger Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the No. 19 pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and defenseman Brock Faber. Moments after the transaction, the Kings got the pens out, signing Fiala to a seven-year deal with an average annual value of $7.875 million.
Los Angeles is apparently not done yet. Insider Kevin Weekes reports that the Kings could be getting ready to make more moves after acquiring Fiala on Wednesday. He believes that since the Kings have the deepest prospect pool in the league, they could be working on another trade.
Fans and pundits will keep a close eye on the Kings ahead of the NHL Draft. After many years struggling, Los Angeles finally clinched a playoff spot this postseason and pushed the first-round series to seven games against the Edmonton Oilers. Though they were eliminated, the Kings showed they were ready to contend and acquiring Fiala proves how focused they are to make it happen.
Fiala had a career year this past offseason, scoring 33 goals and adding 52 assists with the Wild. In 419 career games, he has 124 goals and 159 assists.
If the Kings are getting ready to make another significant trade this summer, their playoff hopes are expected to skyrocket through the roof in 2022-23.
