Tragic news for Letang.
It has been a tough stretch for Pittsburgh Penguins star defenseman Kris Letang, and unfortunately for the incredibly durable blue liner he has now been dealt another tremendous blow.
According to a report from ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, Kris Letang has left the team and is currently in Montreal following the death of his father. This is obviously terrible news for Letang, who recently recovered from a stroke, and there's been no word on when he might return to the team.
Letang was already expected to miss today's Winter Classic game against the Boston Bruins due to an injury he recently suffered, but even if he had recovered enough to hit the ice today the passing of his father has taken that option off the table.
The Penguins will play again on Thursday when they take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights, which is the earliest Letang could potentially return to the lineup.
