Maple Leafs secure the services of Anthony Stolarz with a new contract on Sunday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have officially signed their #1 goaltender to a new deal.
On Sunday morning, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news that Stolarz and the Maple Leafs were rapidly closing in on a new deal. Friedman speculated that the new contract would come in at around an average annual value and cap hit of $4 million per season.
Following that report, former NHL goaltender Kevin Weekes has broken the news that Stolarz has officially signed. According to Weekes the new deal will be a 4 year deal with a total value of $15 million, which works out to an average annual value of just $3.75 million per season. Weekes also adds that the contract is heavily loaded with signing bonuses, making it largely buyout proof from the perspective of Stolarz and his camp.
Stolarz has quite frankly been dynamite over the course of the past two seasons with the only real knock against him being his ability to stay healthy as well as questions about the workload that he can handle. During the 2023-24 season with the Florida Panthers Stolarz had a 2.03 goals against average and a .925 save percentage over 27 games, some of the best numbers in the league that season. He repeated that success the following year with the Maple Leafs with a 2.14 goals against average and a .926 save percentage over 34 games in the 2024-25 regular season, again some of the best numbers in the league that season.
Stolarz has however seen his playtime limited by injuries, with the most notable injury occurring during the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs after receiving an elbow to the head from Panthers forward Sam Bennett. While it is hard to blame Stolarz himself for that incident, many believe that Stolarz being knocked out of that series had a major impact on the outcome for the Maple Leafs.
All that being said, if Stolarz is able to remain healthy and maintain his current level of form, this deal could very well end up looking like a steal for the Maple Leafs.
