I think it's safe to say that Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is not happy with the hockey that he has seen from his team through the first 6 games of the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season.

On Saturday night, following a tough loss to the Seattle Kraken, Stolarz spoke to reporters and tore into his teammates for the lackluster effort they put out in front of him on the ice. Stolarz's tirade came seemingly out of nowhere, with him using a question about teams crashing his net to point out the lack of effort from his teammates.

"I mean it's just playing hard," said Stolarz. "We can take a page out of their book and start going to the net. For us we like to go low to high and shoot and for their goalie it's like playing catch in the yard. He's seeing everything."

Stolarz chastised his teammates for making things too easy on the opposing goalie, once again calling out the level of effort in front of him on a night to night basis.

"We're not making it difficult," said Stolarz. "We made it difficult in the third and look what happened... but it's too little too late."

Stolarz's words weren't just meant to denigrate his teammates but instead challenge them to perform better, with the Maple Leafs netminder making it clear that things must change moving forward.

"We're 6 games into the season, enough is enough," said Stolarz. "We gotta start picking it up here."

When asked if it could be some early season jitters at play, Stolarz wasn't having any of it.

"I mean a lot of guys have been here for a while," said Stolarz dismissing the excuse. "Overtime you can't let someone beat you up the ice there... clear cut breakaway with a minute left if you want to be on the ice in that situation you gotta work hard."

I believe Stolarz's comments will resonate with many in the Maple Leafs fan base and with a new contract in hand I won't be surprised if Stolarz continues to be vocal about the lackluster effort he sees from his teammates.
