Andreas Athanasiou and the Detroit Red Wings have had positive talks with the intent to agree on a contract, and things are getting better.
On Saturday, Wings general manager Ken Holland traveled to Toronto to meet with the 23-year-old.
Athanasiou had threatened to take his talents to the KHL as used it as leverage in the negotiations. His agent Darren Ferris addressed the rumors that his client could head to Russia soon, on Thursday.
"Things can change in quick moment and AA could be headed overseas and then the Olympics," Ferris said.
Athanasiou played in 64 games and scored 18 goals while recording 11 assists for a total of 29 points.
