Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is not happy with what he is seeing from his team and you can hardly blame him for feeling that way. Matthews, who is fresh off of an Olympic Gold Medal, has returned to Toronto and been thrust into 3 straight losses, all of which have been disappointing in one form or fashion.

On Saturday night, the Maple Leafs had a chance to get up for a big rivalry game when they faced off against provincial rivals the Ottawa Senators, but instead the Maple Leafs arguably had their worst performance since their return from the Olympic break. The Senators would eventually take the game by a score of 5-2 and after the game, Matthews, who isn't known for stirring the pot had some harsh comments about the team's current situation.

"I thought we started better, I don't know we just kind lost it there," said a frustrated Matthews. "Just really disconnected throughout all 3 zones, just bad, fairly embarrassing to be honest with you."

Matthews doesn't often make comments of this nature but, again, it's hard to blame the man given the way the team has played during a stretch of what were must-win games for a team that was, prior to these 3 straight losses, still hoping to make the Stanley Cup playoffs.

"We need to have more pride in our play no matter what the situation is," said Matthews. "We just have to have more pride in our game and we didn't have that tonight."

Although the situation is not a pretty one, Matthews wasn't leaving any room for excuses either for himself or his fellow teammates.

"It's never fun to lose, it's never fun to lose in this kind of fashion 3 games in a row, so it's hard," said Matthews. "It definitely wears on you... but everybody's gotta look in the mirror and be better."

Strong words from the captain, now only time will tell if his team will respond.
