Fans failed to deliver the last time around so perhaps Auston Matthews thought he was safe.
Earlier this month Auston Matthews, via a YouTube video, made something of a wager with his fans when he revealed that for the low, low cost of a mere $134,000, he would get rid of his infamous stache.
This wasn't some genius marketing scheme on the part of Matthews to earn himself a little extra spending money ahead of Christmas, but instead it was all for a good cause. Matthews set the goal as a part of his campaign for Movember, a campaign held yearly during the month of November whose goal is to raise awareness for men's health issues including but not limited to, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.
For those of you who missed the video that launched this year's campaign, one that includes a fully curated (by Matthews himself of course) museum of mustachery, it is truly a sight for everyone to behold:
The Leafs forward has become something of a fashionista during his tenure with the organization and the mustache has become a distinct part of the look that he sports on a day to day basis, even featuring prominently in his Halloween costumes. It was big of him to go above and beyond with this particular campaign, especially putting something he clearly likes on the line, and I am happy to report that as of today he has reached his goal of raising over $134,000 for men's health.
As you can see in the screenshot below, Matthews has already surpassed the goal in spite of the fact that there is plenty of time left in the month of Novemeber:
I don't know when Matthews will deliver on his promise, I expect that it will come after the month has come to a close, but soon you won't have to see his stache again. Matthews makes it clear in his promo video for the campaign however that it will make a comeback come next November, so be on the lookout.
