Auston Matthews might have scored twice for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night, it wasn’t enough to beat the Florida Panthers who took home the 6-2 victory.
After the game as he met with reporters for the scrum in the dressing room, Matthews warned them he would sit down while answering questions, visibly in pain from blocking a shot in the last moments of the game.
The Leafs’ superstar blocked a shot from Panthers’ Carter Verhaeghe, which unfortunately ended up hitting him in the private area. It takes ball to block a shot like this!
When it was time to face reporters to discuss the loss in Florida, Matthews opened up with: “I hope you guys don’t mind but I’m sitting down for this one.”
No one minded of course and there is a sense that this unfortunate injury won’t prevent Matthews from taking on the Hurricanes in Carolina on Sunday.
He might however appreciate the extra day to nurse the ailment and could now think twice about blocking a shot with that area in the future…
Poor guy.
