Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews has quickly earned himself a reputation as something of a fashionista, something he will now get to show off even more after pushing for a looser dress code for both himself and his fellow Maple Leafs.
One of the big fashion statements Matthews has made recently has been his decision to rock a mustache, something he did not have when he made his debut in the National Hockey League. The mustache has been the topic of much discussion with some fans hating the thing entirely, while others have been more amenable to the new look from Matthews. One thing has become clear and that is the fact that Matthews himself is a big fan of the way it looks, which is why his latest endeavor will no doubt garner a great deal of attention and hopefully support.
It has become something of a tradition now to use the month of November, or Movember as it is called in these circumstances, to raise awareness for men's health issues and this year it looks like Auston Matthews is looking to make a big splash. Matthews has agreed to participate in a campaign for Movember, one in which he will put his now iconic stache on the line in order to raise as much money for charity as possible.
Matthews is hoping to raise $134,000 for the cause, which goes to fight things such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention and in order to reach his goal he has promised to shave off the stache entirely if the target goal is met. The great part of this campaign is of course the fact that all the fans who have had a negative reaction to Matthews' stache will now have the chance to channel that energy into something positive by getting him to shave it off.
Full credit to Auston Matthews here who has gone out of his way to support a cause that is important to him, and has done so in a creative and funny way that will hopefully entice people into giving.
