Auston Matthews records 50 goals in 50 games.

Incredible.

Auston Matthews has become the first player in the National Hockey League to score 50 goals over a 50 game stretch since Mario Lemieux did it over a quarter of a century ago.

Matthews did it with a bit of luck on his side courtesy of the hockey gods after something of a wild scramble in front of the Montreal Canadiens net resulted in a puck finding its way to a streaking Matthews and subsequently into the back of the Canadiens net. Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen actually made a terrific save on the play, one that has now apparently left him injured, before allowing the goal from Matthews.

Matthews has been tearing it up this season from an offensive production standpoint but this most recent accomplishment may be his greatest yet. Here's a look at the goal that was #50 in 50 games for Auston Matthews:

Matthews would subsequently score yet again just 37 second later, on a different goalie no less with Jake Allen leaving the game due to injury, as if to cement the fact that he did indeed score 50 in 50.
