Auston Matthews rips himself and his teammates for pitiful loss in Game 5
Backs are up against the wall.. what now, Auston?
If you're a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and you missed Game 5 of their second round series against the Florida Panthers last night... well... you didn't miss much.
The Leafs absolutely stunk on home ice and ended up dropping a 6-1 decision to the Panthers in front of boo'ing hometown fans. Fans not only boo'ed their team, but they also threw Leafs jerseys onto the ice and most ended up vacating the arena once the score hit 6-0 with about five minutes in regulation.
It was an ugly scene, to put things nicely.
It was an embarrassing performance from a team who has rightfully earned a reputation for fumbling the bag come playoff time. Need I remind you that the Leafs had a 2-0 series lead and are now down 3-2 with their backs up against the wall?
Yeesh...
After the game captain Auston Matthews spoke up and publicly admonished his own play and the play of his teammates.
While it's good of the captain to recognize the severity of the team's situation, his on ice play doesn't do much to inspire confidence. Matthews has been a complete no-show in the team's last three games and is now on the brink of going scoreless in the entire series. Yeesh... again.
