The pitchforks have come out for Team USA captain Auston Matthews.
The Olympic Winter Games Men's Hockey Tournament has gotten off to a flawless start for the United States of America who are 2-0 after their first two games of the tournament, but despite that flawless start there is still plenty of criticism being directed at the American roster. The brunt of that criticism has taken the form of criticism directed at Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews, who is currently serving as captain for Team USA in this international tournament.
Fans and pundits alike have been left uninspired by the play of Matthews thus far in the tournament, so much so in fact that many, many, American hockey fans are already demanding he be stripped of the "C" on the front of his jersey.
Some have suggested that Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk would be better suited for the leadership role.
Others have pointed to Vegas Golden Knights star forward Jack Eichel as someone that would be better suited for the role.
Others have gone so far as to suggest that Matthews should be replaced entirely, with Barstool Chief going so far as to suggest that he should be swapped out for Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin.
Even those not calling for Matthews to be taken out of the lineup or stripped of the "C" on his jersey have pointed to a steep decline in the play of the Team USA captain.
Did Team USA make the wrong choice? Let me know what you think of the recent criticism directed at Matthews in the comments.
