Avalanche appoint a surprising new GM.

The Colorado Avalanche are wasting little time moving on from the surprising departure of general manager Chris MacFarland earlier this summer, with MacFarland joining the Nashville Predators organization to take over as their general manager, having reportedly already made their decision on who will take over the now vacant role.

According to multiple reports, it will be none other than National Hockey League legend Joe Sakic who will once again take over the role of general manager with Sakic reportedly feeling "reinvigorated" at the prospect of once again leading the Avalanche from behind the GM chair. Sakic of course previously served as the team's long time general manager from 2014 until 2022, but had taken on the role of president of hockey operations following the ascension of MacFarland to the general manager's position.

With MacFarland once again out of the picture it would seem that Sakic is more than happy to return to the role in which he served for so many years.

Sakic's resume speaks for itself having won championships as both a player and an executive in the NHL, and it will be interesting to see if he can once again find that same measure of success in now his second tenure as general manager of the Avalanche.
