Avalanche forced to contact police over threats following Game 3.

Things are getting very serious.

The Colorado Avalanche are now dealing with a headache in the middle of the Stanley Cup playoffs that no team in the National Hockey League, and no team in any sport for that matter, should ever have to deal with. The Avalanche have no officially confirmed that they are currently working with law enforcement officials after threats were made against their players, specifically Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri, following the conclusion of Game 3 between the Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

News first began to circulate about this problem when former NHL player turned activist Akim Aliu took to social media to reveal that Kadri had been the victim of what he described as racist attacks.

From Aliu:

Talked to [Nazem Kadri] about his inadvertent collision with Binnington. Naz has been subject to so many racist attacks and threats since last night that police had to be brought in. Racist attacks like this have no place in hockey and should be investigated and reported on.

The Avalanche have now officially confirmed the initial report from Aliu with The Athletic's Peter Baugh reporting on the following statement from the Avalanche organization:

"The Avalanche organization is aware of threats made toward Nazem Kadri and is working with local law enforcement to investigate" said the team in a statement.

We now also know that the National Hockey League is also taking this matter very seriously. NHL Deputy commissioner Bill Daly has also released statement on this matter and it sounds like the league is already working with law enforcement in order to bring this matter to a swift and hopefully full resolution.

While I can certainly appreciate that fans can find themselves frustrated at things that play out on the ice, taking things to his extreme is no way to deal with that frustration. The person(s) responsible for this will likely now face severe consequences that could seriously impact the rest of their lives, and I would highly encourage anyone thinking of doing something like this to reconsider.
