In the world of professional sports the conversation around "bulletin board material" is a constant one, with players and teams in professional sports league's always wary of giving their opponents a potential source of motivation. On Sunday, the Minnesota Wild learned a tough lesson in why that is the case, when the Colorado Avalanche made them eat their own words in spectacular fashion.

The two Central Division rivals clashed on Sunday in what can only be described as a dominant performance on the part of the Avalanche, one that the Avalanche would eventually take by a score of 5-1. The Avalanche played the entire night like they had something to prove, and following the conclusion of the game it became very clear that this was in fact the case.

Back in late November the Avalanche suffered one of their few losses this season at the hands of the Wild and it would be in the aftermath of that loss that the Avalanche would get some bulletin board material of their own. That material would come courtesy of a quote from Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt, who may have made a mistake by not being more careful with his choice of words.

"It kind of says that we’re a better team than them," said Wallstedt after the win in November. "We beat them. So that felt good."

The Avalanche made it very clear that they had used those words from Wallstedt as motivation when Sunday's game came to a close, with the Avalanche's social media team taking a very clear shot at Wallstedt after the game.

Wallstedt was in goal again on Sunday night and was peppered by 41 shots from the Avalanche, stopping 37 of those shots for a .902 save percentage on the night.

Of course this can now serve as bulletin board material for the Wild as they move forward this season, especially when you consider that these teams will meet again at the end of February. Now only time will tell if the Wild will get their own measure of revenge when the time comes.
