Another difficult storyline is emerging.
Carter Hart has found himself in an unwanted piece of NHL history after Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.
With the Vegas Golden Knights’ latest loss, Hart has now become the first goaltender in league history to allow 4 or more goals in each of the first four games of a Stanley Cup Final.
It’s a staggering statistical mark in a series that has already swung heavily in momentum, with defensive breakdowns and high-danger chances piling up in front of him throughout the matchup.
For a goaltender under intense scrutiny heading into the Final, the number will only add fuel to the conversation surrounding his performance on hockey’s biggest stage.
Hart has been leaned on heavily by Vegas during their playoff run, but consistency in the Final has proven elusive as the Hurricanes continue to generate sustained offensive pressure.
This new unflattering stat also keep piled on to Carter’s reputation and the backlash he’s receiving since returning to the NHL after he was acquitted of sexual assault charges and subsequently reinstated by both the NHL and the NHLPA. Following the acquittal, he signed in Vegas and became eligible to play, ultimately leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final.
Despite the criticism that often follows numbers like these, the Golden Knights remain in the fight, with the series still technically alive heading into the next game.
Still, the stat itself is the kind that tends to linger and we can’t predict how Hart will react and perform in Game 5.
