The bad news for the injured Maple Leafs star continues.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will have to overcome another uphill battle on Saturday night if they want to keep their current win streak alive.
The Maple Leafs have been without the services of star forward William Nylander since the end of last month when Nylander played just 8 minutes during a December 27th game against the Ottawa Senators. Nylander has since been sidelined with an injury and, unfortunately for the Maple Leafs, it looks like that trend will continue when it comes to Saturday's game against the New York Islanders.
Nylander was not on the ice when his teammates hit the ice for their morning skate on Saturday morning, a sign that he has still not recovered from his injury and a sign that he will likely be out of action later tonight.
As a result the Maple Leafs will once again have to field a lineup without Nylander, and here is how that looked on Saturday morning with Craig Berube showcased these lines during the morning skate:
Forwards:
McMann-Matthews-Domi
Maccelli-Tavares-Knies
Cowan-Roy-Robertson
Lorentz-Laughton-Jarnkrok
Defensemen:
Rielly-Stecher
McCabe-OEL
Benoit-Benning
Despite his team having their fair share of struggles this season, Nylander has continued to produce offensively and remains an important part of the Maple Leafs offense. In 33 games prior to this injury Nylander had 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points on the season so far. Replacing a player of his caliber in the short term won't be possible, but thankfully for the Maple Leafs they have had some of their players step up since Nylander's injury.
