Bad news for Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren on Saturday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have updated the status of Timothy Liljegren and the news is not good.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without defenseman Timothy Liljegren for the foreseeable future.
According to an official announcement from the Leafs on Saturday, Liljegren will be out for an extended period of time and has been place on injured reserve as a result of his injury.
The Leafs also announced that they are calling up both defenseman Simon Benoit and defenseman Max Lajoie from the Toronto Marlies in an effort to replace Liljegren's absence in the lineup.
Liljegren was injured during Thursday night's game against the Boston Bruins when he got tangled up with Bruins forward Brad Marchand as the two men were battling for the puck. The end result of that battle was Liljegren falling awkwardly into the boards, a fall that we now know has led to a significant injury.
Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe shared some additional details regarding the injury to his defenseman, confirming that Liljegren has suffered a high ankle sprain. No word from Keefe on how long he expects Liljegren to be out as a result of this injury.
