Flyers first round pick Jett Luchanko is having a tough start to the season.
The Philadelphia Flyers were likely hopeful that first round pick Jett Luchanko would be ready to take a big step this season, but unfortunately things are already off to a shaky start.
On Monday, NBC's Jordan Hall broke the news that Luchanko has already been dealing with a groin injury and furthermore that the injury has caused him to miss all of the Flyers' development camp thus far. Even more concerning is that there seems to be some uncertainty when it comes to Luchanko's participation in the Flyers rookie camp, with the team awaiting word from doctors before proceeding.
Luchanko is considered to be one of the Flyers top prospects after being drafted in the first round (13th overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and these camps would be a crucial part of his ongoing development.
He spent the majority of last season with the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm where he has 21 goals and 35 assists for a whopping 56 points in just 46 games. Luchanko did get a small taste of the National Hockey League last season when he appeared in 4 games, registering no points, and also got 8 games of American Hockey League experience under his belt, picking up 3 assists at the AHL level over that stretch.
Luchanko is a natural centerman, a position of need for the Flyers, and you do have to wonder how this injury might impact his ability to make the team this season.
We won't know more until the Flyers get the results when Luchanko sees team doctors later this week. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
