The Toronto Maple Leafs are having a tough time on Monday morning with bad news regarding two very important players on their roster.

The biggest news of the day is of course the move the Maple Leafs made to place star forward William Nylander on injured reserve. Nylander has been out of the lineup since the 27th of December when he played just a little over 8 minutes during a game against the Ottawa Senators. The Leafs have made the move retroactive to December 27th, which means that Nylander is already eligible to return when he gets healthy.

The Maple Leafs hit the ice on Monday morning but notably absent from the group was veteran defenseman Jake McCabe. McCabe left Saturday's game against the New York Islanders, although he did play over 18 minutes in that game, and his absence today suggests that he is in fact dealing with some type of injury.

We will have to wait for comments from head coach Craig Berube before knowing more regarding McCabe's status.

Update: The Maple Leafs are downplaying the decision to place Nylander on injured reserve, calling it a cap move. Nylander was on the ice today so there does not appear to have been any kind of significant setback.
