Uh oh…
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun hasn’t played for the Coyotes since February 10, as Arizona gets ready to trade the young blue liner before the NHL deadline on March 3. However earlier this week, Chychrun was back on the ice for practice and it sounds like the Coyotes might be coming to the realization that the defender will remain in the desert…
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, one executive believes Chychrun will not be traded, which is just “a bad outcome for everyone involved.” Here is how he writes it in his latest 32 Thoughts column:
“Chychrun returned to practice on Wednesday, and we’ll see where this goes. One executive predicted last weekend he doesn’t get traded at all, which is a bad outcome for everyone involved. I don’t think Boston is doing it, because they’ve got future cap issues. So that leaves Columbus, Los Angeles, St. Louis and anyone else I haven’t uncovered (Winnipeg?).
Is it as simple as GM Bill Armstrong sticking to his price? Is it that the Coyotes can’t add money? Is it that someone needs time? Hopefully we find out soon.”
There is no doubt that Armstrong remains firm that he wants max value in exchange for the defenseman.
“We’re not getting rid of somebody to get rid of somebody. We’re getting rid of somebody or moving somebody along to help the Coyotes. … We’re at that point, we’re deadlocked in negotiations and here we go.”
GM Bill Armstrong to team insider Craig Morgan
The clock is ticking, but maybe it has already run out on Chychrun moving prior to the trade deadline… As of Wednesday, he remains out of the lineup for trade reasons.
