When we shared the footage of New York Rangers’ Barclay Goodrow gruesome injury last week, it was hard to say exactly what came out of his month when he was hit straight in the face by the puck that deviated off teammate K’Andre Miller’s stick against the Senators in Ottawa.

On Tuesday upon meeting with reporters, including Mollie Walker, Goodrow revealed that “he didn’t lose any teeth when he took that puck to the face. He spit out some other part of his jaw.” With a still-swollen upper lip following the Rangers’ morning skate, Goodrow said:

“That was part of my mouth that should have been inside my mouth.”

“It was scary,” he added. “I was so close to (Miller); I didn’t have any time to react to it. Next thing I know, it felt like my mouth was in a million pieces.”

If the additional details on his injury would be hard on anyone’s stomach, Goodrow has been trying to stay adequately fed as he is still trying to figure out how to get all his proteins while not being able to eat solid food for a month.

His teammates and his head coach Peter Laviolette are in awe that Goodrow barely missed any time with his scary injury and how he got back into the fold over the weekend against the Los Angeles Kings. Last night, he was on the ice for the Rangers in their blowout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Goodrow did not earn a point, but still managed to play over 14 minutes of ice time.

Unfortunately for him and his mouth, they couldn’t cringe at the 7-3 win by the Maple Leafs… And the poor guy will have to eat holiday food and Christmas dessert through a tube…
